The ingredients
Strawberry. Fresh or frozen strawberry is good to use here. When using frozen strawberries, you do not need to thaw them; you can blend them with whole milk as it is.
Whole milk. I have used whole milk, to make the milkshake creamy and thick. If you are using low-fat or skimmed milk, it makes the consistency thinner.
Sugar. I have used granulated white sugar. This is good to swap with natural sweeteners like honey.
Pure vanilla extract. This enhances the strawberry flavors, but you may skip it if you want to serve the strawberry milkshake with natural flavors.
The recipe direction
In a blender/juicer, add strawberries, sugar, and 1 cup of milk. Pulse and run the machine for 1 minute or until the texture becomes smooth and silky.
Add remaining milk and pulse until combined.
Transfer the strawberry milkshake to the serving glasses by topping it with ice cubes and fresh fruit slices. And serve immediately.
Serving Suggestions
To retain all the flavors and nutrients of the fresh fruit, serve immediately. The longer you store, the more the strawberry milkshake's quality and the freshness also get loose. This drink is meant to be done as soon as it is prepared.
Serving with fruit slices is optional; I recommend them when serving milkshake strawberries to the children.
Add some finely chopped strawberries to add texture.
Variations
Add honey or other natural sugar to substitute refined sugar.
Top the strawberries milkshake with chopped nuts. This adds a crunch. We love this addition.
Add vanilla extract for more flavor.
Pro Tips
The quantity of sugar mentioned in this recipe depends on the sweetness of the strawberries. Hence, use less sugar when the strawberries do taste sweeter.
To dilute the milkshake, add in more milk. Never stir in water, as it weakens the flavors and the taste.
Top with ice cream or whipped cream in individual glasses when wanted.
The recipe FAQ
I highly recommend using a blender for this strawberry milkshake without ice cream recipe because the strawberries have to be ground and combined with the milk. The blender does this job very well.
This milkshake can be thickened in three ways. Firstly, substitute half of the whole milk with half and half. Secondly, add strawberry ice cream( this is the first choice for more flavors but more calories). And finally, add a half banana for a velvety texture.
Substitute with plant-based milk like almond, coconut, or soy milk. Coconut milk is my preferred alternative.
