Pan-fried wontons

Pan fried wontons are a delicious appetizer made with a special wrapper and a filling of tofu, cabbage, bell pepper, and carrot. They are soft, chewy, and crispy at the bottom.

1 cup firm tofu, crumbled 1 cup shredded cabbage ½ green bell pepper, shredded ¼ cup shredded carrot 20 wonton wrappers ¼ cup water (for brushing) 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

INGREDIENTS

Prepare the filling by crumpling tofu and shredding cabbage, green bell pepper, and carrot. Saute in oil until soft and set aside.

STEP 1

1

Take a wonton wrapper, place 1 tbsp of vegetable mixture in the center. Brush water on the four sides, fold to seal. Repeat for remaining wrappers.

STEP 2

2

Heat vegetable oil in a wide pan and arrange the prepared wontons without crowding. Cook until the bottom surface turns brown, then sprinkle water, cover and cook for 5 minutes.

STEP 3

3

If the wonton wrappers are not fully cooked, sprinkle water again, cover and cook until done. Serve hot with soy sauce or hot sauce.

STEP 4

4

1. Use a non-stick pan for easy flipping and to prevent sticking. 2. Preheat the pan on medium heat to ensure even cooking and crispiness.

COOKING TIPS

1. Sweet and sour chicken: Crispy chicken pieces coated in a tangy sauce, perfect to balance the savory taste of pan-fried wontons.  2. Vegetable stir-fry: A colorful medley of fresh vegetables sautéed in a flavorful sauce, complements the crispiness of the wontons.  3. Mongolian beef: Tender beef strips cooked with onions and peppers in a savory and slightly sweet sauce, pairs well with the wontons.
