Pineapple habanero salsa

Enjoy Pineapple Habanero Salsa. It's sweet, spicy, and zesty. Great with chips, tacos, or meat. Make it as hot as you like!

1 cup pineapple, finely chopped, 2 tablespoons habanero, finely chopped, ¼ cup white onion, finely chopped, 2 tablespoons cilantro, finely chopped, ½ teaspoon salt, Lemon juice (as required), Optional: jalapeno, basil leaves, parsley, or mint for variations

INGREDIENTS

Chop habanero, pineapple, onion, and cilantro finely. Wear gloves while handling habanero as it's hot. Remove seeds for milder heat. In a mixing bowl, combine chopped pineapple, habanero, onion, cilantro, lime juice, and salt.

STEP 1

1

Toss the ingredients until well combined. Serve with chips or nachos, or as a side salad. For more intense heat, add jalapeno or habanero seeds. For an Italian-style flavor, substitute cilantro with basil leaves, parsley, or mint.

STEP 2

2

Store at room temperature for up to 2 hours. For parties, place the salsa bowl over ice cubes to prolong freshness. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze in ziplock bags for up to 2 months.

STEP 3

3

Serve with tortilla chips, grilled chicken, bread, vegetables, sandwiches, or tacos. Experiment with different herbs and flavors. Use a food processor to reduce processing time. Choose the right serving bowl to highlight the salsa's color and texture.

STEP 4

4

Fresh pineapples provide crunchy texture and zest. Control the heat by removing or adding habanero seeds. Substitute cilantro with other herbs for different flavors. Use a food processor for quicker preparation.

Enjoy with spicy tortilla chips for a fabulous punch. Pair with cedar grilled chicken or spicy garlic lime chicken. Spread on sandwiches or fill in fish or shrimp tacos. Serve as a side with spicy roasted vegetables or a roll of bread.
