This South Indian Potato Kurma recipe is very easy to make and requires only a pressure cooker and a ladle for cooking. It made me humming while cooking as there is no tiring job of doing the dishes tonight.

  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 clove
  • 1 cardamom
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 onion medium size
  • 1 tomato medium size
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper / red chili powder
  • 2/3 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 Potatoes cooked and peeled
  • 2 tbsp cilantro chopped
  • 1 tsp salt or as required
  • 1/4 cup coconut ground


  • Chop onion and tomato finely
  • Cook, peel potatoes. And cube into bite size pieces. 
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add cinnamon stick, clove, cardamom. 
  • Fry them until it becomes golden brown.
  • Now add onion. And cook in medium flame till it becomes pink.
  • Then add chopped tomato. Cook it until it becomes mushy.
  • Add cayenne pepper/chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder. Cook for a minute.
  • Add a cup of water and allow it to boil for 10 minutes, in medium flame.
  • Then add potato pieces, and ground coconut.
  • Allow it to cook for 5 minutes in slow flame.
  • Switch off the flame. 
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
