SPICY YOGURT SAUCE

This Spicy Yogurt Sauce is creamy, spicy, and tangy. It is made with pantry staple ingredients in under 5 minutes. It is also very versatile and crowd-friendly, with no prepping work.

The classic Mediterranean sauce inspires this spicy yogurt sauce, often used as a topping for falafel.

Whether I serve chicken, steak, or a salad, my go-to condiment is always this spicy yogurt sauce. Its bold flavors enhance any dish, making it one of my favorites that I whip again and again(also this Honey sriracha sauce).

Overall verdict: It is one of the best sauces you can rely on.

Why You'll Love This Recipe?

⭐️It's so much quicker that it's ready in no time.

⭐️Combination of rich flavors.

⭐️Multi-purpose.

The Ingredients

  • Greek yogurt: Choose plain Greek yogurt. I made it today with low-fat Greek yogurt.
  • Sriracha sauce: What else pops up in your mind when instantly spicing up a recipe? This has everything: the heat and the taste with the right hint of tanginess.
  • Garlic powder: Or use freshly minced garlic.
  • Cayenne pepper: Cayenne pepper is added to Sriracha sauce to increase the heat level one step above. However, it can be substituted with paprika to lower the heat.
  • Lemon juice: It brightens the flavors and is excellent for achieving a smooth texture.

How To Make Spicy Yogurt Sauce?

  • In a mixing bowl, add Greek yogurt, Sriracha sauce, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and salt.
  • And whisk until all the ingredients combine and form a silky texture.
  • Serve as a glaze or dressing over your preferred main dish. ENJOY.

How To Use?

Whatever the dish you serve, this spicy yogurt sauce will surely make it a big success among family and friends.

  • Grilled Meat: Stir over grilled or BBQ steak or chicken(my family's favorite).
  • Pasta sauce: Toss in with pasta for a weeknight family dinner. This combo effortlessly surprises the family.
  • Taco: Planning a taco night? Drizzle over the taco with this yogurt sauce.
  • Salad: Toss as a dressing and give a salad(like this Greek yogurt cucumber salad) an all-new makeover.

♨️How To Adjust The Heat?

The spicy yogurt sauce is medium in heat. Sriracha sauce and cayenne peppers are the ingredients responsible for the heat.

To control the heat, adjust the amount of Sriracha. Reduce or skip using Cayenne pepper.

Add more Sriracha or a dash of crushed red pepper flakes to enhance the heat.

Leftovers

To store the leftover sauce, keep it in the refrigerator for up to a day.

I would not recommend freezing this spicy yogurt sauce, as it may turn grainy once thawed, but it still tastes delicious.

However, if you prefer freezing, store it for up to two months. Allow it to thaw in the refrigerator(no reheating is necessary). Whisk well to restore its smooth consistency.

Substitutions

  • Vegan version: You can substitute the Greek yogurt with vegan-friendly plant-based yogurt.
  • Hot sauce. Substitute Sriracha sauce with red hot sauce if that's what you have.
  • Fresh garlic. An equivalent replacement for the garlic powder. Add them as minced to the recipe.

FAQ

Can I make this spicy yogurt sauce ahead of time?

This fabulous, make-ahead-friendly recipe is easy to prepare. Whisk together all the ingredients except the lemon juice. Store in the refrigerator a day in advance. Whip again with lemon juice just before serving.

It's too spicy for me; how to tame the heat?

Once the dish is made, it's hard to remove the heat, but you can bring it down a little by adding extra Greek yogurt.

I was sceptical when I tasted this sauce on its own. It was too yoghurt-y, but the second I tasted it on my wrap with all my veggies I was an instant believer. This sauce is phenomenal and it really elevated my roasted veggie+salad wrap.
