This ginger lime aioli is perfect for those looking for flavorful, fresh recipes for dipping sauces to enhance their meals.

When I whip this up, I make it in large batches for sandwiches, toss it over roasted vegetables, or use it as a dipping sauce for fries(check out this Japanese sweet potato fries recipe); this aioli adds a deliciously zesty twist.

With its straightforward instructions and everyday ingredients, making a creamy and flavorful aioli is always a breeze.

Ingredients

  • Mayonnaise: Choose your favorite variety of mayo-vegan or light. On the other hand, Greek yogurt is a fantastic substitute if you're looking for a lighter option.
  • Fresh Ginger Root: The main ingredient, with a zesty kick, makes this aioli unique.
  • Garlic Clove: Freshly minced garlic is highly recommended for this recipe.
  • Lemon Juice and zest: Add lime zest to intensify the flavors in the ginger aioli sauce. This will give the sauce a bright, citrusy note that balances the ginger's spice.

How To Make Ginger Aioli?

  • Prepare Your Ingredients: Grate your ginger finely. And mince the garlic as finely as possible to ensure it blends smoothly into the aioli.
  • Mixing Time: In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, grated ginger, minced garlic, lime zest, and lemon juice.
  • Season: Add a pinch of sea salt.
  • Combine: Mix all the ingredients until they're well combined and smooth using a whisk or a fork.
  • Chill: Refrigerate the aioli for 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors develop.
  • Enjoy: Use this ginger aioli as a dipping sauce, topping, or as a marinade.

What To Serve With?

  • Vegetables: Drizzle or dip grilled veggies(works well with this spicy roasted butternut squash or this spicy roasted sweet potatoes) in ginger aioli to add a creamy, spicy kick.
  • Seafood: Whether shrimp, Dungeness crab cakes, grilled fish, or Cajun Shrimp, this ginger aioli is a perfect complement.
  • Sandwiches and Wraps: Spread ginger lime aioli on your favorite sandwiches and wraps for an instant flavor upgrade(like this Blackened Mahi Mahi Tacos, Spicy tuna wrap, or Cajun Shrimp Tacos).
  • Fried Foods: For fried appetizers like french fries, onion rings, or tempura.
  • Salads: Use as a salad dressing for a creamy, tangy twist.

  • Add textures: Combine with green onions and sesame seeds for a crunch and freshness.
  • Citrus Ginger Aioli: Swap fresh lime juice with fresh orange juice with orange zest for a fruity twist.
  • Sweet version: Stir in honey or brown sugar.
  • Vegan Ginger Aioli: Use vegan mayonnaise as the base, ensuring everyone can enjoy its bold flavors without compromising taste.

Leftovers

Refrigerate the leftover ginger aioli in an airtight container for up to a week.

Freezing isn't recommended for aioli because it can separate and lose its creamy texture when frozen and thawed.

Recipe Tips & Tricks

  • You can also make mayonnaise with egg yolks and olive or vegetable oil.
  • Consider using a food processor if you're preparing this aioli sauce in bulk.
  • When making a marinade, check the consistency is suitable for your needs, adding a little lemon juice to adjust if needed.

FAQs

Can I make Ginger Aioli without mayonnaise?

Yes, you can substitute the mayo with vegan mayonnaise or Greek yogurt.

How do we adjust the consistency?

If your ginger aioli is too thick, whip it with a bit of water or lemon juice until you reach your desired consistency. If it's too thin, add more mayonnaise.
