This Spicy Avocado Toast is creamy, buttery, and subtle in heat. It's perfectly spiced with lime juice, hot sauce, and crushed red peppers without overpowering. It's perfect for a quick breakfast or snack and tastes fabulous and flavorful.

Delicious spicy avocado toast topped with jalapeños and hot sauce

In under five minutes, I can make it with just six ingredients and serve a light-yet-filling breakfast for the whole family(I often pair it with Sriracha Scrambled Eggs or Roasted Veggies when serving as a meal).

The spices make this recipe enjoyable every single time by bringing a whole new depth of flavor to the toast.

If you're uncomfortable with heat, start with a small amount of spices, taste it, and adjust as you go.

Why You'll Love This Recipe

⭐️It's a fun little twist on a classic favorite.

⭐️Simple, quick, and with simple ingredients.

⭐️Fully adoptable; add a sunny side or slices of hard-boiled egg(like this Jalapeno Pickled Eggs).

Ingredients

Fresh ingredients for spicy avocado toast: avocado, lime, hot sauce, and bread.
  • Avocado: Use a ripe avocado that feels soft when gently pressed. Prepare it just before serving, as avocado discolors quickly.
  • Lime juice: You can substitute it with lemon juice.
  • Hot sauce: I used red hot sauce for this recipe, but feel free to swap it with your favorite-Sriracha or Cholula both work great!
  • Crushed red pepper: Adjust to your tolerance, start small, then spice it up!
  • Salt and ground black pepper: Freshly ground black pepper gives the best flavor and intensity.
  • Whole-grain bread: Choose whole-grain or sourdough bread-something sturdy with a texture that can hold the creamy mashed avocado without getting soggy.

  1. Spread the avocado mixture generously over each toasted slice. Top with extra hot sauce, crushed red pepper, or avocado chunks. Serve immediately and enjoy!

♨️How To Adjust The Heat Level

Everyone's tolerance to heat is different, so it's always best to customize this recipe to your liking. No worries-this spicy avocado toast is super flexible.

The main ingredients in this recipe are hot sauce and crushed red pepper, which bring the heat and spice. Simply adjust these to match your spice tolerance.

If you want to enhance the heat, add more hot sauce or crushed red pepper(or combine with Jalapeno Pesto).

You can also add finely chopped jalapeños or serrano peppers. Even a small amount-like half a teaspoon-of these green chili peppers can bring in a new level of flavor you might not expect!

The Leftovers

  • Avocado is highly perishable and tends to brown quickly once exposed to air.
  • I wouldn't recommend storing this spicy avocado toast for later-neither in the refrigerator nor the freezer.
  • It's best enjoyed fresh, right after making it.

Pro Tips For Best Results

The secret to this recipe is the ripeness of the avocado. For the best flavor and texture, always choose perfectly ripe avocados.

FAQ

What type of bread works best for this toast?

Avocado is rich and dense, so the bread needs to have a sturdy texture to hold up the weight of the toppings. I recommend using whole-grain, multigrain, or sourdough bread-something with some decadence and structure.
However, you can also use regular white or wheat bread, but toast it longer to get that perfect crispy base.

How do I know if the avocado is ripe?

A ripe avocado feels slightly soft when pressed gently. The skin will usually be dark green to almost black. If the avocado feels hard, leave it at room temperature or place it in a paper bag for a day or two until it ripens.

Can I make the avocado spread ahead of time?

Avocado is best when it's fresh. I recommend making the spread before serving to keep the taste fresh and the color vibrant.

Can I preserve it for later?

There are a few tricks to slow down browning, like adding more lime juice and covering it tightly, but honestly, I highly recommend enjoying it right after making it. It's when the flavors and texture are at their best.

Is this recipe vegan?

Yes! This spicy avocado toast is 100% vegan, dairy-free, and plant-based. It's a wholesome option, perfect for weekends or busy mornings.
