About this recipe

A reliable recipe to turn your regular meal into awesome food. And this spicy toast is the easiest recipe I could make in the busy morning hours.

This recipe is very easy in the morning hours, with minimum available ingredients, and has much room for innovations and experiments, like this Chinese French fries.

Ingredients

Bread. French, brioche, challah, or baguette bread are ideal for the classic version of French toast. However, I used whole wheat or Italian multigrain bread sandwich bread, it is soft and with fibers. Choosing white grain or whole grain is your personal choice.

Hot sauce. It spices up the toast and intensifies the taste. A dash of hot sauce would be perfect in here.

Serrano pepper. Deseed them to suit your heat tolerance. If you want a real hot and spicy French toast leaves the seeds on. I usually remove the seeds partially for moderate heat. Swap with any green chili pepper according to the availability.

Turmeric powder. It enhances and brings out a rich golden color to the toast.

Garlic powder. A aromatic ingredient, that make the dish more inviting.

How to make French toast

This recipe can be made in many variations and ingredients. This is the basic recipe.

French Toast steps and procedures

In a bowl, add eggs, milk, hot sauce, turmeric powder, minced serrano pepper, garlic powder, and salt. And whisk until frothy.

French Toast steps and procedures

Gently dip each bread slice into the egg mixture to coat it well on both sides. And drip off excess mixture. Cook it on the stovetop in a pan by drizzling half a teaspoon of butter. Cook for a minute on each side or until it becomes golden brown.

Serve French Toast with available fruits and top with roasted tomato.

Storing Ideas

Refrigerate. Transfer the excess or left over spicy French toast to a air sealed container. And store them in the refrigerator to use within a day.

Freeze. These are good to store for up to 3 months when frozen. For this, arrange the toast in a single layer until frozen. And save them in the zip lock bags. This way it's easy to take out the right portion and also saves freezer space. To thaw, leave them in the refrigerator overnight.

Reheat. This toast can be reheat in three ways over stovetop, oven, or toaster. For the oven-arrange, the toast in the baking tray, and bake it at 375°F for 10-15 minutes or until it turns hot. For stove top-place, the toast over the skillet and cook in medium heat until it is hot. For toaster-pop them into the toaster and toast till it turns thoroughly warm.
